Tails In The City LiverpoolTails In The City Liverpool

About

Run by Julia. Trusted by Liverpool dogs since 2014.

Julia had been walking dogs across Liverpool for years. Tails came out of needing a safe space for them, away from public places. That was Tails in the Park, and Tails in the City came after it.

How we got here

The whole story is shorter than most about pages.

Tails started because I'd been walking dogs across Liverpool for many years. I became so busy that Tails was born out of necessity. I'd got to the point where I needed a safe space for the dogs to carry on thriving, away from public places, so I built one. That was Tails in the Park.

Tails in the City came sometime after that. Somewhere in town made more sense for people working in the city, and it meant more time for the dogs to play. No more dogs in transit, driving to and from local parks. Happy dogs, happy staff. We created outdoor areas with indoor sections connected to them, so there is always fresh air and somewhere to dodge the rainy days.

Tails in the City has been going since 2014. We're licensed by Liverpool City Council, and they rate the daycare and the boarding 5 out of 5. We're still doing pretty much what we set out to do all those years ago, which is dogs in bespoke small groups, a pack leader who knows their dogs, and somewhere they're free to do what dogs do best, which is play.

How we do things

Four things we won't compromise on.

None of them are free to stick to. We stick to them anyway, because the dogs already here come first.

Capped numbers

We turn bookings away when we're full rather than squeeze one more in. The dogs already here come first.

Somebody's always in the room

Your dog is supervised the whole time by a person who's actually in there with them, not by a camera and a radio.

We know what we're not

We're a daycare. We're not trainers, we're not a vet and we're not behaviourists. If your dog needs one of those we'll say so, and point you at someone decent.

Patient with the tricky ones

Anxious rescues, dogs recovering from an operation, dogs who haven't got on anywhere else. It's why we don't rush trial days.

Watch

Julia, on what we actually do.

Two minutes. The place, the people, and the idea we've stuck to since 2014.

The people

A small team, and most of them have been here years.

Director

Started the crèche in 2014 and still knows every regular by name. Very patient with dogs, and somehow even more patient with their owners.

The facility

What you'll see when you visit.

Indoor cabins

Heated, with proper bedding, and set out so a dog can go and sit on its own if it wants to. Cleaned between visits.

Outdoor garden

Fully secure, with shade in the summer and somewhere dry to stand when it's raining. Astroturf for the days you don't want mud, grass for a proper sniff about.

Wash room

A walk-in bath with warm water and room to dry them off properly. It gets used for booked washes and for the muddy emergencies at four o'clock.

Puppy zone

Smaller, padded, and away from the main group, so puppies can take it at their own speed.

Best way to know us

Come and visit. Bring your dog.

The trial day is on us. You'll see the place, meet the team, and get a real sense of whether we're the right fit for your dog.
